The City of South Burlington is accepting applications for the newly created position of Deputy Fire Chief/Fire Marshal. We seek an experienced, energetic, team oriented individual who will report to the Fire Chief.
JOB SUMMARY
The primary function of the Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal is overall responsibility for fire code enforcement, plans review, inspection of new and existing buildings and ensuring correct fees are charged and collected.
The Deputy Chief/Fire Marshal works with the Fire Chief in the management of the Fire Department so all administrative functions are timely and accurate. In the absence of the Fire Chief the Deputy Chief assumes all management and administrative duties.
QUALIFICATIONS
· An Associate’s Degree in Fire Protection or related discipline or have equivalent training and experience.
· Must have a minimum of 10 years as a Career Firefighter/EMT and must have served as a Career Fire Officer for at least 2 or more years with demonstrated experience of successful management in a fire department.
· Fire code enforcement, building inspection, and plans review certifications and/or experience considered necessary.
· Current certifications to include: motor vehicle operators’ license, Firefighter II, EMT-Basic, (Intermediate desirable), Hazardous Materials Operations Level, and Fire Officer 1 and 2.
POSITION and APPLICATION DEADLINE: Grade/Salary: Grade 17 - $57 to $71k DOQ/E; EOE/AA. Open unit filled.
