Emergency Services Consulting International (ESCI) is seeking a qualified Deputy Fire Marshal for the Keizer Fire District, to be hired in June, 2017. This position is being filled due to the retirement of the former Deputy Fire Marshal.


Organized in 1948, Keizer Fire District provides Fire Protection, Fire Prevention services, Public Safety Education, and Community Emergency Medical Services to approximately 10 square miles, which includes the City of Keizer, Oregon (rated as the 2nd best place in Oregon to live), and serves a resident population of approximately 39,000.  KFD emergency responders responded to 4,685 calls for help in 2016, responding from one centrally located Fire Station with 32 career employees, 25 Volunteer Firefighters, and the 15 Explorer Scouts.


The ideal candidate will have a high level of experience, education, and current Fire Prevention & Code Enforcement certifications, as stipulated in the Deputy Fire Marshal Job Description.  ICC Fire Inspector 1 or greater certification, an Associate’s Degree, and a Fire Service background, are the preferred qualifications of the ideal candidate.  Any combination of certifications, education, and experience that lead the applicant to believe they would be successful are encouraged to apply.  The person in this position experiences a high degree of public interaction, therefore must have excellent skills in the area of interpersonal relations.


This is a Captain ranked position; who will report directly to the Fire Chief.  It is essential that they be a self-starter and able work independently. The Fire District is experiencing substantial growth, in both businesses and housing.  The Deputy Fire Marshal works closely with the City of Keizer’s Department of Community Development, and Marion County Building officials on building permits and pre-applications and the City of Keizer, Code Enforcement Officer.


The Deputy Fire Marshal supervises a Public Education Specialist and may also supervise others as assigned. The position is represented by IAFF.
