The City of Santa Rosa is accepting applications for the position of Fire Inspector to establish an eligibility list to fill one current opening and possible future vacancies.

Fire Inspectors conduct technical fire inspections and public fire education, and perform investigative work to ensure compliance with laws, ordinances and regulations pertaining to the prevention and control of fires and the safe storage, handling and use of hazardous materials.

The Fire Inspector classification performs the full range of technical inspection, public fire education and investigation work at the journey-level in the Fire Prevention Bureau of the Fire Department. Incumbents in this classification are considered Peace Officers under Penal Code section 830.37(b) when acting in their capacity to enforce laws relating to fire prevention and fire investigation. The Fire Inspector has the primary responsibility for complex fire inspection, education and investigative assignments. 

Fire Inspectors work under the direction of the Fire Marshal and the supervision of Assistant Fire Marshals; responsibilities may include providing functional or technical supervision of sworn and non-sworn personnel in areas related to fire prevention, public fire education and fire investigation activities.
