Earthquake Communications Failures??? IAFC needs your help.

If your department experienced communications problems with your Commercial Data Network (Verizon, ATT, Sprint etc.) following yesterday's earthquake, the IAFC's D-Block team needs to hear your story.  This request does not include voice communications over your core Land Mobile Radio network but specifically, the data network associated with commercial wireless carriers.

The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) and their partners in law enforcement, EMS and emergency management have been working hard to explain to congress why commercial networks don't meet the mission critical nature of emergency responder communications needs.  It has been our contention that when responders need our data networks the most, the networks will become jammed with normal traffic and become unusable to responders.  Experiences which fit this profile are needed to further illustrate our need to congress.

If you experienced such a failure, please email Chief Jeff Johnson (Ret.), Past President of the IAFC with a short explanation of the problem you experienced.  Problems which fit our criteria will result in a brief telephone interview with members of the IAFC communications team.  Please email Chief Johnson at chiefjdj@gmail.com

Regards,

Chief Jeff Johnson (Ret.)
