A fire broke out early Tuesday morning at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel in south Las Vegas. Clark County Fire Department crews responded to the hotel, located near Warm Springs Road and I-215, around 2:18 a.m. Firefighters arriving at the scene identified smoke coming from the building and observed an active fire in the elevator. Hotel guests tell FOX5 that around 2:30 a.m., fire alarms began ringing throughout the hotel. Craig Hudson, a guest from California, says he initially thought the alarms were the result of a malfunction. However, after checking the hallway, other guests informed him that an electrical fire had broken out. Another guest, Ethan Romero, also visiting from California, was visiting Las Vegas with his family for a vacation

When the idea first came up, it is unlikely anyone involved predicted this would happen in 2024. "We knew 24 years ago we needed to do this," explained Carson City Mayor Lori Bagwell. However long it took to come to fruition, Monday's groundbreaking for Carson City's newest fire station and emergency operations center was a big day for Nevada's state capital. "You start with an $11 million project and end up with an $18 million project," Bagwell said. "But we got federal help, and Carson City residents will be the beneficiaries of this new facility." The new station will be located on Butti Way in East Carson. Fire Chief Sean Slamon says it will be the first new station since the mid-1970s. The project is anticipated to be completed in summer of 2025.

PHOTOS: A three-alarm church fire near Love Field Airport temporarily closed runways Tuesday afternoon. Dallas Fire-Rescue crews were called to a fire at Iglesia Adventista Church on Denton Ave. around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday. Crews began fighting the fire from inside, but "the situation quickly escalated and fire began to come through the roof." A third alarm was called and roughly 60-70 firefighters worked to surround and drown the fire with hand lines, master streams and two aerial ladders. Dallas Fire-Rescue says the fire spread to a second building. No injuries have been reported and the fire is under investigation. The City of Dallas said aircraft were being redirected due to smoke. By 3 p.m., all runways were cleared for use and operations at Love Field are normal.

VIDEO: In Tulsa, Oklahoma State University held a demonstration to show how they're working to get more drones and robots in the hands of first responders. In the scenario, a drone flew donated blood from a local hospital to a simulated crash scene. A robotic dog from the University of Tulsa picked up the donation and delivered it to a Tulsa Firefighter to give to a patient in the simulated crash scene. A PHD student at the University of Tulsa, Jacob Hart, said the university has three of these robotic dogs and explained some of the ways the dogs can be used. "Ultimately robots are really great at what's dirty, dull and dangerous. These are the things we don't want to do day in and day out or necessarily do ourselves. Having a robot that can step in and do it for us is super nice," Hart said.

VIDEO: San Francisco could be the first city in the nation to ban a common type of firefighter uniform found to emit cancer-causing chemicals. Firefighters on Tuesday joined city leaders on the steps of city hall to voice their support for new legislation introduced in the afternoon requiring San Francisco to provide new uniforms to its roughly 800 firefighters over the next two years. "Each one of us knows members, has grown up with members, has had to help members who have had this horrible disease just kill their bodies," said Floyd Rollins, San Francisco firefighters union president. "Since 2006, we are looking at over 300 San Francisco firefighters that have lost their lives." Nationwide, companies are still in the testing phase of developing uniforms that do not contain the cancer-causing chemical.

A search and recovery effort is underway in Baltimore for six people presumed dead after the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapsed early Tuesday following a major cargo boat collision. The major shipping port remains closed, which officials say could have significant economic consequences nationwide. A team from the National Transportation Safety Board boarded the ship late Tuesday night to gather evidence for their investigation, agency Chair Jennifer Homendy told CNN on Wednesday. Officials obtained the ship's data recorder, or black box, which Homendy said would help investigators develop a timeline of events leading up to the crash. The agency will also interview members of the ship's crew, she said. Sources familiar with the probe say it will look into whether contaminated fuel played a role in what happened, the Wall Street Journal reported.
