There wasn't anything different about Tuesday's fire call to Selden Road, according to LeRoy Acting Fire Chief Tim Hogle."It was our typical, should've been a normal fire scene that we've been on numerous times in my numerous years with the fire service," Hogle said. But as we already know, that call was anything but normal. Hogle was one of three to be first on scene. He said he noticed something concerning almost immediately "As I do my size up, I scan in front of the house, look straight across and I saw the subject standing around the garage area in the driveway." Police have identified him as Kyle Johnson. Hogle said he was holding a gun. "Then, I saw a weapon, a gun be pulled up and then I heard the three shots." Hogle said his first thought was of his fellow firefighters who were already on the way. Hogle said he jumped in his truck and dispatched that shots had been fired. "Everybody, where ever they're at, I said to stop where you're at. Do not come into the scene. The scene is not secured." Hogle and the others drove to safety. None were injured from the gunfire. Hogle said he never expected anything like this to happen here. But, it won't stop him from doing what he loves and helping those who need it. "I plan on staying in the fire service. I mean, the community needs firefighters." He had already responded to another fire on Wednesday. However, Hogle said he is seeking counseling in light of the shooting.
