The six Worcester firefighters who died battling the Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse Co. blaze 16 years ago will be remembered Thursday evening during an event at the Franklin Street Fire Station. The gathering begins at 6 p.m. Firefighters, public officials and people from around the area gathered at the fire station last year as the city honored the firefighters during the 15th anniversary of the fire that took the lives of fire Lt. Thomas Spencer, Lt. Timothy P. Jackson Sr., Lt. James Lyons III and Firefighters Jeremiah Lucey, Paul A. Brotherton and Joseph McGuirk. Officials will ring a bell at 6:13 p.m., the same time the call came in for the massive fire. The six firefighters were trapped inside the building while looking for two homeless people reportedly inside. The new Franklin Street Fire Station was built on the same spot where the Worcester Cold Storage and Warehouse Co. fire took place. Officials will also gather at the fire station at 266 Franklin St. on Dec. 8 to honor Firefighter Jon D. Davies Sr. who died on that day in 2011 while battling a fire at 49 Arlington St. People posted messages in remembrance of the six firefighters who died, referred to as the "Worcester Six" on Twitter.
