VIDEO - Action News Investigates has learned that Pennsylvania State Police are targeting Pittsburgh-area firefighters who are using illegal lights on their personal cars. But firefighters are pushing back, saying strict enforcement of the law could put them and the public at risk. Some volunteer firefighters use blue lights when trying to get to the station in a hurry. And there are red lights that volunteer and paid fire chiefs have in their personal vehicles. When East Carnegie Fire Chief Adam Kauer runs his lights, he's hard to miss. "You have it covered here, then you have it covered down on the running boards. Then coming back around front, you have it," Kauer said, pointing out the lights on his car. There's only one problem. "Anything you see interior mounted on this vehicle is illegal,” Kauer said. And that means most of the lights. Kauer only found out his lights were illegal a few months ago when he got a visit from state police. A trooper issued warnings to Kauer and two of his volunteers who use blue lights mounted inside their vehicles.
