A man's fear of spiders nearly caused him to set a Metro Detroit gas station on fire. Instead, he set his car and a gas pump on fire.
WJBK-TV FOX 2 News reports the man saw a spider on his car's gas tank while he was at a gas station in Center Line. He then did something that most people understand is obviously not smart. He used a lighter to try and kill it. Yes, while at a gas pump.
As you can see in the surveillance video below, the man's car quickly caught fire at the gas pump. FOX 2 News reports the man was not injured, and only his car and the gas pump were damaged by the fire.
He used a nearby extinguisher and put out the flames before firefighters arrived.
FOX 2 reports the gas station's insurance should cover the damaged pump.
