Ever since 31-year-old Nicole Clardy Mittendorff’s cream-colored Mini Cooper was found Saturday in Shenandoah National Park near the Whiteoak Canyon Trail, the search for her has focused near that popular trail. Now the National Park Service has closed four other areas in the Whiteoak Canyon area — Limberlost, Crescent Rocks, Cedar Run, and Cedar Run Link Trail — in connection with the search for the career Fairfax County firefighter/paramedic, who was last heard from Wednesday.
According to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller approximately 100 federal, state and volunteer search and rescue teams have been searching for Mittendorff, of Woodbridge, Virginia.
Police have not said whether anything was found in Mittendorff’s car that would indicate where she was heading or what may have happened to her. Police had been asking people to stay away from where Mittendorff’s vehicle was recovered during the investigation.
Her father, Robert Clardy, has said he texted with his daughter Wednesday, approximately 10:50 a.m. She was reported missing on Friday, and her vehicle was discovered the next day.
