Louisiana firefighter accidentally shoots another first responder during flood rescue mission

A northwest Louisiana firefighter who traveled to Baton Rouge to help with flood rescue efforts is believed to have accidentally discharged his weapon, wounding another firefighter, according to officials. The incident happened Monday night in the 9000 block of Greenwell Springs Road. Investigators say the bullet first hit a boat and then hit the fireman. Both firefighters are members of the Bossier Parish Water and Technical Emergency Rescue team, which includes firefighters from the Bienville Parish Fire District, according to Bossier Parish Sheriff's Office Lt. Bill Davis. Lt. Davis said the firefighter who suffered a gunshot wound is with the South Bossier Fire District 2. He is in serious, but stable condition. According to the wounded fireman's family, he underwent surgery and is expected to survive. The firefighter who accidentally fired the shot is with the Benton Fire District 4 station. According to Benton Fire District 4 Fire Chief J.T. Wallace, the firefighters were putting boats into the water when the fireman's gun accidentally discharged.
