A 44-year-old EMT died Wednesday evening (Feb. 10) when an equipment failure at the West Jefferson Emergency Medical Services Headquarters caused an ambulance to fall on him, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office said. JPSO officers were called at 5:32 p.m. and the victim was taken to West Jefferson Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. He has not been identified. Two EMTs and a mechanic were working on an ambulance on a rack in a mechanics shop at 1225 Avenue C in Marrero when the rack gave way, said JPSO spokesman John Fortunato. "The vehicle collapsed on its side under the rack," Fortunato said. "One guy gets pinned, the other guy gets injured as well." The second EMT, 37, sustained minor injuries and the 34-year-old mechanic was not injured, Fortunato said.
