PHOTO - A new fire truck being delivered to a Long Island department crashed on Interstate 84 East in Hopewell Junction on Tuesday, state police confirmed. "It was a brand new fire truck being delivered" to the Islip Terrace Fire Department, said Melissa McMorris, a state police spokeswoman. The delivery driver was "transported to Danbury Hospital" in Connecticut. As of about 4 p.m, New York's 511 service reported the incident, which backed up traffic for about three miles near the Lime Kiln Road exit, "cleared." Earlier in the afternoon, the eastbound left lane was closed "so emergency responders (could) remove the fire truck," McMorris said. The westbound lane was also "congested by a tractor trailer that attempted a u-turn to avoid traffic in the same area."
