PHOTO - More than a dozen Columbus firefighters could face punishment for a farewell party at a closed fire station this past summer. Photos obtained by 10TV show what investigators call deliberate damage to the old Station 2 building. Firefighters say the pictures don't tell the whole story. The photos were taken inside Station 2 days after the now notorious ‘kegs and eggs’ party. The investigation revealed that wasn't the case, but firefighters are in trouble for drinking alcohol in a city owned building. Maintenance workers discovered the damage last summer including smashed walls and shattered windows. Those workers reported it looked like vandals broke into Station Two. The investigation reveals most of the damage happened when firefighters were moving out of the old house, but more than a dozen firefighters are facing discipline for either bringing or consuming alcohol, off duty at the firehouse. In an internal investigation, one firefighter told investigators "it was nonchalant." It was "no big Mardis Gras." Firefighters say they threw the impromptu party to say goodbye to a 42-year veteran who spent most of his career at Station 2. The investigative report shows at least 18 off duty firefighters are accused of supplying or consuming alcohol. A supervising officer told fire investigators the alcohol was a "gray area" saying he understood there's "no alcohol on city property" but says firefighters assumed it means "while you were working and I guess that covers at all times."
