Arkansas Firefighter Hospitalized After Falling Through Attic At Burning Home

A Barling firefighter has been released from Mercy Hospital after falling through the attic of a burning home early Tuesday morning (Jan. 5). Firefighter Robert Barker was treated for both lower back pain and arm pain following his fall at a home on Meadow Lane around 1 a.m., according to Edwin Anderson with the Barling Fire Department. Barker was one of several firefighters working to put out a chimney fire at 2207 Meadow Lane when the accident happened. "When we showed up on the scene we had smoke in the house and smoke in the attic," Anderson explained. "We had flames showing. We put a guy in the attic and he got tangled up in the fire hose and fell through the ceiling." Barker hit a washing machine on his way down, before landing on the garage fell. Barker was then immediately taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital.
