Don Ishman, the former chief of the Hilltop Volunteer Fire Department, was killed Saturday afternoon when he was accidentally struck by a tanker apparatus at the firehall on Saturday afternoon. Kane-based state police said Ishman, 60, of Cyclone, was one of several firefighters assisting with a public service detail on Saturday. He was hit by the tanker while providing assistance to the driver who was backing into a garage bay at the station, located at 4367 Route 646 in Keating Township. Ishman was pronounced dead at the scene by McKean County Coroner Mike Cahill, according to state police. Police list the driver of the tanker as Richard Beckman, 79, of Gifford. Following an investigation, police found the incident to have been accidental in nature, and no charges will be filed.
