The Fire Department employees who racked up the most overtime last year weren’t putting out fires, according to an analysis of payroll records. The records showed that not one of the FDNY’s top 25 OT earners was a firefighter or officer. Thirteen were fire marshals, seven were marine engineers who repair fireboats, and the rest were mechanics and other blue-collar civilian workers. Heading the list was Frederick Domini Jr., a marine engineer based on Staten Island who clocked 2,034 extra hours to add $153,786 in overtime to a base salary of $92,543. Besides Domini, supervising fire marshal Thomas Kane and marine engineer Thomas Clarke all made enough to exceed the salary of Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro, who makes $214,413. “It’s kind of shocking that you don’t have at least have some fire captains and firefighters on the list but then again, part of the problem is the Fire Department is low on fire marshals, marine engineers and mechanics,” said one FDNY source.
