Yonkers firefighters are suing the city to force it to build a new firehouse pledged when the Ridge Hill shopping center got its approvals. The union wants the state Supreme Court to forbid city officials from issuing any certificate of occupancy for the new Lowe's home improvement store under construction at Ridge Hill until the new firehouse is built or there is a firm timetable for building a firehouse under court supervision to ensure compliance. The Mutual Aid Association of the Paid Fire Department of the City of Yonkers, also known as Local 628 I.A.F.F., filed the Oct. 21 lawsuit, which claimed that firefighters are in danger.
