A labor of love that qualifies as hazardous duty.
Three firefighters were hurt Tuesday, including a volunteer fire chief, related to a fire and explosion in LaGrange County.
A 50-foot silo full of sawdust was the source of the trouble.
It turned into a dangerous situation for firefighters and at least one worker in harm's way.
At Tri-State Hardwood in South Milford early Tuesday, sawdust in a silo started to smolder and burn.
Things went downhill from there.
"It was a handful that's for sure," said Finley Conley, who is the Stroh Assistant Fire Chief. Volunteers from fire departments in Stroh and Wolcottville were summoned first to deal with the issue.
But it didn't go smoothly.
