A man was taken into custody Sunday evening after he assaulted a police officer and firefighter in west Wichita. Wichita Police Sgt. Nikki Woodrow reports a 25-year-old man drove erratically into the joint Wichita Police and Fire Department station in the 600 block of N. Elder about 6:45 p.m. Sunday night. That’s east of I-235 just south of Central. Woodrow said as the man drove into the parking lot of the station, he almost struck a firefighter and a 31-year-old man. After the firefighter jumped out of the way, the suspect jumped out of his car and allegedly got into a physical altercation with the two men. The firefighter then began ringing the doorbell of the police station and the suspect pounded on the door. When a Wichita Police sergeant stepped out of the station, the suspect then pushed the officer in the chest and threatened him.
