A firefighter has died after a training event Thursday, officials have confirmed. Fire Marshal Chris Barkalow said Friday that Chief Engineer Daniel McCann III of Wall "fell ill after training last night while at home and was unable to be revived." McCann was a 27-year veteran who served with Manasquan Hook & Ladder Company 1. Barkalow said he was also a full-time emergency medical technician with the Nutley Volunteer Emergency & Rescue Squad and had formerly worked as an EMS captain in Kearny, McCann is survived by his wife, parents and two sisters, Barkalow said. "The department's saddened, the Borough of Manasquan is saddened," Barkalow said. "It's an untimely death and obviously it's tough to deal with."
