Suspended Canandaigua Fire Chief Mark Marentette was fired as of Friday because of insubordination and mismanagement of public funds, according to City Manager Ted Andrzejewski. The manager suspended Marentette for 30 days in January over what the city characterized as charges of misconduct, incompetence and insubordination.
The city will now begin the search for a new fire chief, Mayor Ellen Polimeni said Monday. Also Monday, Marentette’s attorney, Michael Harren, said there will be an appeal. Harren said that appeal will either be made through the city civil service officer or the courts — the state Supreme Court Appellate Division. “We think the hearing officer did a good job, but we disapprove of some of his conclusions,” Harren said.
