A Casper firefighter died Saturday night after an extended battle with pancreatic cancer. Captain Matt Trott, 46, joined the fire department in 1995. During his 21 years at the department, he worked as an engineer, a child passenger safety technician and a captain. He retired March 6 due to his cancer, called pancreatic acinar cell carcinoma. Fire spokesman Dane Anderson said Trott’s death is considered a line-of-duty death. Of the 188 firefighters employed by the Casper Fire Department in the last 25 years, 13 have been diagnosed with cancer, department data shows.
