Three Hattiesburg firefighters huddled in Hattiesburg Fire Department Station 2's fire truck early Saturday morning, just minutes after they were warned of an approaching tornado.
"We looked out the door and realized what was going on," firefighter Cody Keys said. "We got into the back of the (fire) truck, laid down and held on, let the storm pass."
The men had just gone back to bed at the station on Arledge Street after responding to a call earlier that morning, but it didn't take long for them to spring back into action.
"We got out of the truck and got our gear on and walked out to see everything and go door to door checking on people," Keys said.
