Cove Creek Pearson Volunteer Fire Chief Doug Deckard died after being struck by a car while checking water lines early Sunday during severe storms. The Arkansas State Police says Deckard, 51, was working along Highway 25 just west of the Faulkner-Cleburne County line near Quitman. He was outside of his vehicle checking doing work when he was hit. Arkansas State Police aren't releasing any additional information at this time.
