The current and former fire chiefs, with a combined 30 years at the helm, stood proudly Wednesday at the selectmen's meeting for an unprecedented night they'd long awaited: the appointment of five captains to the 31-member department.
It was a first.
"It's just a great night for us," said Scott Jepson, the chief of the past decade. "It's an historic event."
"Absolutely ecstatic," echoed Stephen Rivard, his predecessor for two decades, agreeing with officials this was something they have long awaited to improve their department even further.
