A woman tried to stab a Tucson fire captain in the chest early this morning as he and other crewmembers were outside an apartment answering a 911 call, officials say.
The captain’s thick protective jacket kept him from being wounded, Capt. Andrew Skaggs, said in a news release.
The incident happened about 2:30 a.m. when firefighters went to an apartment complex after a neighbor reported seeing smoke from a downstairs unit.
As the captain and others were outside getting ready to enter the smokey apartment, Skaggs says a woman who lives there lunged at the captain with a knife. The knife could not penetrate the firefighter’s thick jacket and he escaped.
