Michigan's oldest operating fire department looking to get global recognition

VIDEO - A northern Michigan fire department may soon get some worldwide recognition. The city of Manistee Fire Department is the oldest operating firehouse in the state of Michigan. Firefighters and city officials have now applied to the Guinness World They hope to get recognized as the ‘Oldest Continuously Manned Fire Station' in the world. The department has been operating since 1888. Artifacts that date back to when the station first operated are located in the station. Officials like Fred LaPoint at the department have spent months gathering information and historical facts for the application.
