Longtime Frankfort Fire Department Chief Charles Thompson is unsure if he wants to accept a demotion after city officials removed him from the helm of his own department.
City officials on Monday ousted Thompson — and offered him a position as a firefighter — following multiple policy violations stemming from his “on-call service” requirements, according to a press release sent this week from city Superintendent Josh Mills.
“The demotion stems from various violations of fire department policy associated with on-call service,” Mills wrote in an email, noting city officials will not comment further on the maneuver.
Thompson said he worked at the department for more than a dozen years — including the past six as chief. He said departmental policies can be interpreted differently from person to person but declined to elaborate further on what specific passages could have led to his recent dismissal.
“It’s kind of a touchy subject,” Thompson said. “I don’t care what they do anymore.”
