Firefighters at the scene of house fire found themselves in the middle of a firefight with people in two vehicles on Thursday.
The Flint Fire Department responded just after 1 p.m. on Dec. 27 to reports of a structure fire in the 1100 block of Welch Boulevard, according to Battalion Chief Mark Kovach.
While firefighters were responding to what turned about to be a small fire in the oven, Kovach said, two vehicles came speeding toward the home, with the people in them shooting at each other.
One of the vehicles stopped and another kept driving as Kovach followed it, he said.
“I’m fine. They’re not shooting at me. They’re just shooting near me,” he said. “I just wanted to give dispatch an idea of travel so they could dispatch police in the right direction.”
