Boone County Fire Protection District 2 Trustee Kevin Stark has resigned his appointed position amid controversy over a profane sign he planted in front of his Marengo trucking and concrete business earlier this month. The District 2 Board of Trustees accepted Stark’s resignation during a board meeting Monday. “The Board of Trustees does not endorse in any way the use of any profane, intolerant and insensitive language contained on the sign,” said Board President Jim Marrs. “The board expressly disavows the language expressed on the sign and in no way does the board agree with the crude and politically insensitive remarks.” More than 30 firefighters and their supporters packed the Belvidere fire hall Monday to express outrage over Stark’s sign. Many said they considered the sign’s message to be anti-LGBT and offensive.
