Texas town settles claims from massive fertilizer blast that leveled part of town

West, the town where a fertilizer plant exploded after a fire, killing 15, has settled its claims with manufacturers and distributors of the product that exploded, according to a news release. CF Industries, El Dorado Chemical Company, International Chemical Company and Adair Grain will pay the city $10.44 million to resolve West’s claims from the damages. The blast the night of April 17, 2013, leveled buildings around the plant, damaging streets, water lines, sewer system and other infrastructure. Ten volunteer firefighters who responded to the plant when they received reports of a small fire, two men helping them and three nearby residents were killed.
