A man has died from his injuries after he was struck by a Phoenix Fire Department vehicle as it was leaving a station, according to officials.
The incident occurred Monday near 12th Avenue and Pierce Street around 11:37 a.m., police said.
The man was taken to the hospital, but was later pronounced dead, according to police.
The fire station had received an emergency call and dispatched a rescue unit, police said.
As the rescue unit drove out, the crew heard a bump, police said.
The crew looked out the rearview mirror and saw a backpack lying on the ground. Firefighters exited the vehicle and found an injured adult male.
