An Austin Fire cadet died at the hospital on Tuesday, according to the a tweet sent Tuesday evening from the department.
The cadet was identified as Devon Coney.
"Immense sadness over the passing of one of our best and brightest, Devon Coney, who died earlier this evening at a local hospital. Devon’s positive attitude, ever-present kindness and joy, and megawatt smile are just a few of the many things we’ll miss," Austin Fire tweeted Tuesday evening. In a press release obtained by KVUE, Austin Fire said that Coney suffered an unknown medical emergency at approximately 7:30 a.m. Monday at the department's training academy. Officials said they immediately started treatment and Coney was transported by Austin-Travis County EMS to South Austin Medical Center, where he later died on Tuesday.
