Two firefighters were injured after an extra-alarm fire on Chicago's West Side Saturday morning.
There was a "mayday" call at 1921 S. St. Louis in North Lawndale Saturday morning around 9:30 a.m.
One of the firefighters, Michael Manchester, was taken to Mt. Sinai Hospital and then transported to Stroger Hospital where he is in serious condition.
Officials said firefighters had a though time forcing their way into the building. At sometime, Manchester had a medical emergency where he went down and was unconscious.
"This does remind all of us when that horrific call comes, all of us run away from that danger, the firefighters in the City of Chicago run toward it and take risks we can only imagine and not really wrap our heads around what they're doing," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said.
