Cedar Hammock firefighter Michael Dunn started wondering what happened to his patients after an overdose call. "We would get these calls and save their lives and essentially jump back into the fire truck and leave for the next one,” said Dunn. He wanted to give people the resources they need to get clean. Dunn made a card with the phone numbers of addiction centers and group homes. “I started handing them out as we were at these calls” said Dunn. Now, firefighters all across Manatee County are handing out the cards. Dunn even started a website to give recovering addicts more resources. Dunn said overdose numbers in the county are going down in 2018, but he still feels the need to hand out his cards.
