Long Beach City Council voted Tuesday, Nov. 20 to rename a Fire Department training center after David Rosa, the captain who was killed on duty earlier this year. The facility, at 2249 Argonne Avenue in the Stearns Park neighborhood, will now be called the “Captain David Rosa Regional Training Center.” “Obviously, Capt. Rosa gave a lot and contributed a lot and paid the ultimate price for his public service to the city,” Councilman Al Austin said. “So I think it’s only fitting that we recognize him on the fire training station … He did so much in training so many of the existing department at the fire academy.” The 45-year-old Rosa was struck by gunfire in the early hours of Monday, June 25, when he was responding to an explosion at the 11-story, 100-unit Covenant Manor, which houses low-income senior citizens, in the 600 block of East Fourth Street near Atlantic Avenue.
