Citing the “extensive nature” of the request, the City of Scranton needs 30 days to decide if it will provide the employment application of the city fire chief’s son.
The Times-Tribune requested a copy of Jacob DeSarno’s employment application earlier this month through the Right To Know Law, after the applicant’s father, Fire Chief Patrick DeSarno, directed the paper to do so. The newspaper filed the request Oct. 11 as part of the reporting for an Oct. 13 article on Jacob DeSarno’s hire.
In a letter dated Oct. 18, the standard deadline of five business days to reply, Nancy Krake, Scranton’s open records officer, wrote that the city expects to respond within the next 30 days because the newspaper’s request is “extensive.”
The newspaper received the letter Monday. It contains boilerplate language that is relatively common from the city’s open records office.
