Maryland assistant chief dies after suffering medical emergency at accident scene

A volunteer firefighter died in the line of duty after suffering a medical emergency at the scene of a head-on crash early Saturday afternoon on state Route 404. Assistant Fire Chief Danny Lister was working at the scene of the crash between Route 309 (Starr Road) and Old Queen Anne Road in Talbot County when he suffered a medical emergency, the Queen Anne-Hillsboro Volunteer Fire Company Inc. said Saturday night in a press release. Rescue personnel tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate Lister at the scene, and he died at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Easton. Lister was among numerous volunteer firefighters, emergency medical services personnel, police and state highway crews who responded to the two-vehicle head-on crash that occurred about 1:48 p.m. Saturday.
