A North Pole woman was charged with assault and arson after she reportedly hit her boyfriend in the face with a flashlight and set his truck on fire late Monday night. Alaska State Troopers received a call at 11:06 p.m. from a woman who said Samantha M. Bergman, 31, had lit a man’s truck on fire. Troopers responded to the man’s Badger Road address, and he told them he’d been inside his trailer with a woman when he noticed the fire. The man said Bergman was waiting outside the trailer and hit him three times with a flashlight when he went to investigate. He said he and Bergman had been dating for about nine months and she had burned his truck in the past, according to a criminal complaint. The man had a cut on his nose and left cheek, and had dried blood on his face, according to a criminal complaint. Troopers contacted Bergman about an hour later at a Bradway Road address, and she told them she had no idea how the truck caught on fire. She said she drove the truck to her boyfriend’s house, went up to the trailer and heard him having sex with another woman.
