Ernie Misewicz has been appointed the new fire chief for the Salcha Fire and Rescue Department. Misewicz worked at Fairbanks Fire Department for 19 years and spent the last eight years as the assistant fire chief there. He began his career as an army fire fighter and has also worked at the state fire marshal’s office, Eielson Air Force Base Fire Protection and North Star Volunteer Fire. When asked about his new position Monday, Misewicz said he was honored to be chosen. “I look forward to working with the volunteers because they’re what makes the department operate.
