A garage in Spenard has gone up in flames after a man was working near a work bench close to flammable liquids, according to the Anchorage Fire Department.
"It kind of spread through the shop, he had different cans of kerosene, fuels and oils and paints," said Capt. Eric Tuott with the Anchorage Fire Department. "Luckily the guys from Spenard Fire station were here fast enough to put some water on it to stop it spreading into the house."
Two ladder trucks, three engines and a rescue company responded and were able to extinguish the fire within five minutes. Tuott said he didn't know exactly what the homeowner was doing before the fire started as he hadn't had a chance to speak to him as of 2:45 p.m.
There were no injuries reported, according to Anchorage Fire Department.
Tuott said it was a good reminder to make sure any flammables are kept away from ignition sources.
