Alaskans who answered a KTUU survey on emergency preparedness are overwhelmingly concerned most about an earthquake when it comes to the type of emergency to be prepared for.
About half of the people who answered our survey said they feel prepared for an emergency. For others, even just taking our survey spurred them to think about preparing. While half counted themselves prepared, only a quarter felt Alaskans in general are prepared.
Our unscientific survey was filled out by 584 people from all across the state. Eighty five percent of our respondents were in South Central Alaska close to the state’s infrastructure necessities like the port, and of course, the road system, but Alaskans from all regions, from Platinum, to Copper River, to Southeast, answered as well.
Some of the people who selected an “other” answer when asked if they were prepared for an emergency, some said it depended on the severity of the emergency, or whether they would have to have winter clothing to go outside.
