‘Doesn’t Seem Real’: Parents Speak Out After Deadly Fire in Prichard

(VIDEO) Antwuan Nodd is a father broken. Sunday afternoon, a fire ripped thru the home he shared with his parents on Janie Avenue, his children were inside. His youngest daughter, 8-month-old Justice rescued from the blaze, and made it out badly burned. His oldest daughter, three-year-old London didn't survive. The ceiling collapsed as neighbors attempted to get her out. "I just remember asking 'where's London?'" Nodd said. Nodd was at work when the fire started. When he arrived on the scene, his youngest daughter was already heading to the hospital for her burns. His father was being taken to the hospital for minor injuries, and his mother was battling the blaze. He oldest daughter was missing. "Nobody would tell me where she was, I just knew," he said. Nodd knew something was wrong. But, in the whirlwind of firefighters and fear, if all felt unreal. He could not believe this was his life, he couldn't believe that was his home. "We thought it was a dream at first, but now, it's becoming reality," he said. On Tuesday, small bears lined the fence of the home on Janie Avenue. Behind the fence, all of the Nodd's belongings, photos, social security cards, clothes, destroyed. Family members spent the afternoon trying to pick up the pieces. His mother, Cheryl Nodd, said she tried to stop the fire Sunday. She's been spending her time at USA Medical Center with her husband. Antwuan has been in Birmingham at hospital with Justice. He said she has burns on 60% of her body and is on a ventilator. "She's been in surgery all day," he said, "she's still recovering, she's still in critical condition, we are going to be here for a while," he said. As he tries to stay strong for his wife and Justice. He thinks back to London, his oldest daughter. He said sometimes he catches himself waiting for her to walk into the room. "Her favorite movie was Frozen I mean, I remember on a Saturday, when I was off, we watched Frozen like ten times," he said.
