Bessemer firefighter injured while fighting house fire

A Bessemer firefighter was injured in a fire around midnight on Thursday. Bessemer Fire Battalion Chief Michael Brannon says the blaze burned a hole through the floor of a home in the 500 block of Charleston Drive. Firefighter Scott Sloan stepped or fell into the hole and broke his ankle and shin bone, according to Chief Brannon. Sloan had surgery and is recovering.
