A man was taken to UAB Hospital with burns and smoke-inhalation after flames destroyed a house in the McDonald Chapel community Monday morning. The man is believed to likely be the homeowner according to Minor Fire Chief Joe McGough. Firefighters were called to the house on the 5700 block of Java Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Firefighters do not know what caused the fire. The house did not have electricity according to firefighters. The state fire marshal's office is expected to be called later on Monday to investigate. McGough said he did not believe there was anything suspicious about the fire.
