Church members at Satsuma United Methodist Church are working to salvage what little they can after their sanctuary caught fire Monday morning just before noon. The damage inside is extensive. Firefighters got the call around 11:45 a.m. Church employees were at the church at the time, but thankfully no one was inside the sanctuary. Church members said on Sunday they celebrated 100 years of worship on Bayou Avenue, so the fire was especially heartbreaking. Longtime members came rushing over to pray as soon as they heard the news. "I'm just devastated. I know it's just a building and the church is the members but it's just so many memories. But I know we'll build something bigger and better for God for us to worship in," said member Carol Heathcoe. Satsuma Fire Chief Clyde Miller said it took about 10 minutes for Satsuma and Saraland firefighters to put out the blaze.
