Dothan Fire and Dothan Police officials are investigating a “suspicious” fire that decimated a home on Cottonwood Road early Wednesday morning.
At approximately 5:48 a.m., a passerby or a neighbor reported a fire at a home in the 3900 block of Cottonwood Road, according to Dothan Fire Deputy Chief Chris Etheredge. Firefighters arrived to find a major fire burning at the residence.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, but the home suffered “extensive damage due to a delay in detection,” Etheredge said. No one was at home of the time of the fire, and no one suffered injuries from the blaze.
Part of the reason the fire is suspicious, though, is Dothan Police received a call in reference to a potential burglary either in the late-night hours or early-morning hours, said Dothan Police’s Lt. Lynn Watkins. Watkins noted officers did not find evidence to conclude a burglary had occurred, though.
