The Slocomb Fire/Rescue Department is circulating a petition in the community to rally support for a fire fee to support the department.
The department hopes if enough signatures are gathered on the petition, Slocomb voters can vote in the upcoming election to have a $35 fire fee added to their annual Geneva County property tax.
“Our guaranteed operating budget is $28,000 (not including EMS),” said Slocomb Fire/Rescue Operations Chief Kyle Hovey. Those funds are broken down by our department receiving $10,000 from tobacco tax and $17,000 from the City of Slocomb General fund. Out of the amount we receive from the city, $5,000 goes toward our fire truck payment.
