A local search and rescue K9 is on the road to recovery after falling victim to a brutal hit and run last week.
NBC 15 sat down with K9 Nero's owner who watched it all happen.
"It was shocking honestly. I kind of didn't believe it even happened,” Firefighter Ross Braswell said, adding, “It's like one of those things where you see it happen and your like, no." Braswell can't believe his 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, trained since birth to safe lives as an urban search and rescue dog, was suddenly in need of life saving treatment himself.
